This layout portrays a Welsh narrow gauge railway built to carry slate.
Penmachno village lies about 5 miles north of Betws-y-Coed.
There was a slate quarry at the end of the valley which did have an internal tramway system, but no rail outlet. This layout depicts the station at the head of the valley if a line had been built to connect the quarry to Betws-y-Coed. The station is the terminating point for passenger and general goods trains; the slate trains and quarry supplies going up the branch to the quarry itself.
