Del Monte - Keith Thompson & David Mee Hola!
Enjoying the holiday in
Spain. Weather is glorious, love this Mediterranean
climate, sun and clear blue skies all day. Have
discovered a quaint narrow gauge railway that runs near
here. Had a ride on it last Friday. It runs forty
kilometers from Gerona to the coast at Sant Feliu and it
was a good day out but a bumpy two hour ride on wooden
seats. We still have the marks on our bums to prove it!
Most of the trains have
goods wagons and passenger coaches all in the same rain.
Quite an experience it was sharing the ride with all the
local people going to market, sacks of cork and a herd of
goats! Don't know how they get it to work with such
little engines on the 750mm gauge track.
It is rumoured that it is
gong to close which would be a shame really as it runs
through beautiful countryside which you can appreciate
not having to concentrate on driving on the wrong side of
the road.
Crossed an embankment
covered with bamboo and then over a river but there was
no water in it. Might go and take some photos of the
station area tomorrow as it is all very interesting,
especially as some very nice young ladies are staying in
one of the villas by the level crossing. If they can
speak English we are made! Can tell you more about it
when we see you.
Hasta la vista.
