Hall Estate - Stephen Brown The BHER was first built as an entry for a
diorama competition in 1990. The owner wished to use the
model after the competition and so designed it as a
working layout as well. The circular format and rotating
base were developed to make construction and viewing
easier and more interesting.
It is a 7mm = 1 foot
freelance model of a 15" gauge estate railway
inspired by the prototypes developed by Sir Arthur
Heywood. The three scenes represent the hall's station,
the estate timber yard and the engineering workshops.
The period is set long
after the railway formed the link to the local main line
for passengers and goods. The hall owner has developed
the line as much for personal enjoyment as well as
performing useful duties around the estate.
The track is Peco 009 and
the rolling stock uses proprietary 9mm gauge components
from both N gauge and 009. The steam loco is an 09 kit
which indicates the growing interest in this format.
Magazines:
Railway Modeller serialised throughout 1992.
