| Upper
Shamble - Colin Grant A 009 narrow gauge and OO standard gauge
layout.
Upper Shamble started life
as a small through station on the narrow gauge line
feeding Shamblehurst, which is a large but spread out
farming community. With the coming of the railway, it has
added a new dimension to local communications and opened
up the town to new business opportunities. Farmers can
now distribute locally grown produce to a larger market.
Tourism is now almost as
important to the inhabitants as farming.
As a result of this
success, the GWR decided to build its own branch line to
Shamblehurst. In order to reduce cost, they terminated
the line at Upper Shamble and converted the existing
narrow gauge line to dual gauge.
