'Carne' is a fictitious village in the west country. The layout depicts the narrow gauge branch line entering the village during the early days of the Carne Branch Preservation Society in the early 1960s. The society are trying to keep the trains running with borrowed locomotives and ageing rolling stock, with the aim of restoring the whole line.

The emthasis is on the scenery. An area of Carne village, together with its small neighbour 'Chapel End', have been modelled amidst typical countryside to give an impression of spaciousness on the layout.
